AASTHA
Anganwadi (day care) centres are powerful spaces for social change. By building community spaces in bastis over the past years, Social Design Collaborative have come to realise the critical role they can play in the education, nutrition and health of children. By improving the learning environment through design can significantly improve the quality of services at these centres.
The publication has been to build such spaces for better building practices while also providing access to government schemes - ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme).
ICDS POCKETGUIDE
A compilation as a pocketbook on India's ICDS - Integrated Child Development Services - scheme under which these anganwadis are set up. It supports understanding the scheme to come up with policy and design strategies to build better anganwadis.
Policy Research
A study of documents supplied by the Ministry of Women and Child Development as part of the Umbrella ICDS initiated the inquiry. Along with the federal government, each state government body issues instructions about the scheme's execution, which has been critical for comprehending the various levels of implementation.
Understanding On Ground Reality
K.R. Venugopal (IAS) retired in 1995 as Secretary to the Prime Minister of India ran a social audit of Anganwadi services scheme in Andhra Pradesh. The audit published in form of a book; The Integrated Child Development Services: A Flagship Adrift has been an important source for understanding the discrepancies of the scheme.
While the book suggests about the differences in base standards and implementation of the policies, It holds true for the state of Andhra Pradesh. To verify our analysis, we interacted with the communities and various stakeholders in Delhi.

THE ANGANWADI MANUAL
In collaboration with WIEGO- Focal City Delh, this booklet has been designed to bridge the information aysmmetry between grassroot activists and policymakers. While the Social Design Collaborative handled the research and design aspects of the project, WIEGO, in the coming months, will be actively working towards its dissemination in Delhi.
